Vortex FFP reticles

When changing the magnification on a first or front focal plane (FFP) scope, the reticle changes size to maintain consistent subtensions relative to the target image. At high magnification, the scopes appears to zoom in on a FFP reticle, and at low magnification, a FFP reticle shrinks. In contrast, a second or rear focal plane (SFP or RFP) reticle does not change when you change magnification. SFP reticles are popular where a clear aiming point is most important (e.g., hunting), and FFP reticles are popular when using reticle subtension markings for ranging, wind holds, and/or drop holds.

Vortex EBR-series front focal plane reticles are very popular among Precision Rifle Series (PRS) and National Rifle League (NRL) competitors, and are often considered the benchmark against which other brand’s front focal plane reticles are compared.

The Razor HD Gen II 3-18×50 and 4.5-27×56 models offer a choice between the EBR-2C and EBR-7C FFP reticles. Although similar, the key differences between the EBR-2C and EBR-7C reticles include:

• The EBR-2C reticle features an open center, the EBR-7C features a center dot.
• The EBR-2C only illuminates the primary vertical and horizontal stadia, the EBR-7C illuminates the tree grid pattern as well.
• The hold-over numerals are along the vertical stadia on the EBR-2C, the EBR-7C moves the numerals to the edges of the tree grid pattern.
